Year 7 Extension Class 2027

The Murray High School Year 7 Extension Class supports high potential and gifted students through challenging, creative and future-focused learning experiences that extend beyond the standard curriculum. With a direct focus on the intellectual and creative HPGE domains, the premise of the class is to ignite student potential through:

· Intellectually challenging learning experiences

· Deep and critical thinking

· Positive academic risk

· Student voice and agency

· Motivation and self-direction

· Pursuit of excellence

The curriculum structure for the Extension Class follows the mandatory indicative hours of learning as prescribed by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). The class, as a discrete cohort, follows the expected curriculum pattern for all subjects, including: English, Mathematics; Science; HSIE; PD/H/PE; Languages; Mandatory Technology; Music; and Visual Arts. The class also accesses Year Advisor lessons in the same way as all others in the year group.

The pattern of study also provides for project-based learning. Teachers and students together develop activities according to student interests and how they connect with the mainstream curriculum.

Intellectual

The intellectual domain of potential refers to natural abilities in processing, understanding, reasoning, and the transfer of learning.

Creative

The creative domain of potential refers to natural abilities in imagination, invention and originality.
